Research Ethics Committee / Human Genome, Gene Analysis Research Ethics Committee
Purpose
Putting into practice the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant government guidelines, the committee examines ethical issues that arise in medical research involving human subjects and in the clinical application of medical research, when those issues involve researchers affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine of the University of Tokyo, and the University of Tokyo hospital.
Functions
Regarding activities at the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine of the University of Tokyo, and the University of Tokyo hospital, the committee has two functions, as follows.
1) The committee examines and monitors protocols for research involving human subjects, and it examines and monitors publication of the results of such research.
2) As needed, the committee studies and deliberates on how medical ethics should be approached and handled.
