| 1858 | May. | Practitioners Trained in Dutch (European) mediclne in Edo (Tokyo) laid out money and established at Kanda Mitamagaike Vaccination station called the Shutojyo (vaccination center). |
| Nov. | The Shutojyo burned by a fire which emerged from Kanda Aioicyo, continued its operation at other sites such as a residence of Ito Genboku. | |
| 1859 | Sep. | The Shutojyo was moved to and reconstructed at Shitaya lzumibashi Dohri. |
| 1860 | Oct. | The Shutojyo became an official medical institution of the Shogunate Government. |
| 1861 | Oct. | The Shutojyo was renamed as Seiyo Igaku-syo (Institute of Western Medicine) and offered courses of Western medicine in the fields of education, autopsy, and vaccination. |

Instead, four divisions were established, Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology, Social Medicine, Reproductive, Developmental and Aging Science and Surgery. |

Instead, three divisions were established, Internal Medicine, Health Science and Nursing and International Health. |

Medicine, three divisions were abolished, First Basic Medicine, Second Basic
Medicine and Second Clinical Medicine. Instead, four divisions were
established, Molecular Cell Biology, Functional Biology, Radiology and
Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience. As the result of above mentioned reorganization, three institutes were abolished, Institute of Brain Research, Institute of Medical Electronics and Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics. |
